November 8, 2021 - Foliage Flight

I always like to get in a good foliage flight in the Fall.  In fact, I like to get up to Maine and see the foliage there.  I would have done it this Fall but the weather was bad the week I was able to do it, and the colors were peak up there.

Peak foliage has been unusually late this year.  Usually peak foliage is in late October.  But the leaves didn't turn this year.  Until finally the last few days.  So I went on a foliage flight in the late afternoon on a clear Monday.

Ironically, some of the best color in the area is in the large wooded area surrounding the northern half of Essex Skypark.

Flying down low over a sea of color on the north side of Essex Skypark.

Miller's Island is also a good place for foliage.

A better shot of Miller's Island.

I crossed the Chesapeake Bay and stopped at Bay Bridge Airport to get some gas.

Then I was back in the air, headed north over the Eastern Shore.

The late afternoon sun really lit things up.

A secluded estate sits alone at the tip of a peninsula.

Another estate has what I call "Foliage Alley".

If you look closely, you can see deer down in that grassy area.

Zooming in.

I caught these deer out in the open.

Flying just over the treetops - beautiful!

One of the many private grass airstrips on the Eastern Shore.  That is the Chester River in the background.
